Paintings by Colin Willey
Out at all times of the year, catching the changing moods of the Dorset coast and countryside, Colin WIlley has built a reputation as one of the county’s most respected landscape painters.
His pictures can be found in some notable individual collections, and his CV was further enhanced in 2011 when several of his canvases were acquired for the House of Lords permanent collection.
Fascinated in particular by dramatic skies, he works outside in sunshine, rain and even snow, as light and weather constantly change the appearance of the landscape. The result is images which are fresh and lively but filled with subtle atmosphere.
All paintings are framed.
Linoprints by Rebecca Drury
Rebecca Drury is a printmaker whose work is inspired by the Dorset coast and countryside and its wildlife.
A lifelong artist devoted to drawing from nature, she studied biology at the University of Nottingham, going on to receive an MSc and PhD in Anthropology and Environment from University College London, and has spent 20 years working in biodiversity conservation. Her prints often feature wild plants and animals, including otters, hares and badgers as well as lesser-known species.
Paintings by Philip Winstone
Philip Winstone, who lives at Charmouth, turned to painting after a long preoccupation with photography. His distinctive form of semi-abstraction, inspired by the coast, is characterised by a subtle palette and focus on texture.
He has been a regular exhibitor at Gallery On The Square since we first showed his work in 2016.
Paintings by Sarah Jack
Sarah Jack’s work is informed by a sense of passing time, and the atmosphere engendered by landscape often populated by old cottages and farmsteads.
Her unique and personal approach has developed over years of experimenting with colour and surfaces. It begins with the building up of layers of texture in a mix of media including acrylics and inks, often with scrim or wire, before the piece is likely to be brought together with the use of oils. The process involves constant trial and experiment. Scraping, wiping and sanding all play a part, and she will use rags and spatulas as often as brushes.
Paintings and prints by Charlie Money
Since she moved to Dorset, Charlie Money has become devoted in particular to the Purbecks, exploring the coast from her home at Swanage. She moved there from East Devon, attracted to the open and upbeat feel, the light of Swanage Bay and the spectacular, unspoilt scenery.
This remarkable corner of England has prompted new departures in her poetic distillations of the elements of landscape. Her grasp of shape and form and lightness of touch make her work truly distinctive.
Paintings and prints by Cathy Veale
Cathy Veale’s whose stunning seascapes, rich in luminosity and colour, communicate a special sense of the effect of light and reflection on water.
Having traveled extensively around Europe, America and New Zealand, painting and drawing as she went, she is now based in Swanage, her home town. She has had her work selected by the Royal West of England Academy and has regularly exhibited at the Mall Galleries in London with the Royal Society of Marine Artists and the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour.
Framed prints are typically £250 or £350; originals as priced here.
