Rob Adams in London… and at Poundbury

By popular demand, Rob Adams has added some London pictures to his current exhibition at Gallery On The Square!
The show concentrates on his Dorset paintings, marking five years since he moved to the county, but followers of his work expressed the desire to see some of his recent London pictures as well…
Also in the gallery now is the picture Rob was working on at the weekend here at Queen Mother Square, though the paint is still drying at this point…

Plein-air painter at work

Rob Adams’s new exhibition opened today in the gallery, and he has taken advantage of the occasion to train his eye on Queen Mother Square. Here’s how the picture was looking this afternoon… he has taken it home now for consideration…

Rob Adams is back

It is a bumper autumn for Dorset landscape painting here at Gallery On The Square!

Hard on the heels of Colin Willey’s very successful show, we welcome back another gallery favourite, Rob Adams, for an exhibition starting on October 5.

Rob, as many people will know, made his name with London’s prestigious Wapping Group of painters. He moved to Dorset in 2014, and with this new exhibition celebrates five years living and working in the county…

What a show!

Marvellous start to our Summer Exhibition, Three Printmakers,  with a remarkable number of pictures sold in the first few days.

It’s a big show, though, and there is a whole lot of fascinating work still here from Paul Cleden, Robin Mackenzie and Sarah Ross-Thompson.

In the picture: artists Paul Cleden (left) and Robin Mackenzie with Frank and Val Godman, before the evening private view which launched the exhibition.

Paul Cleden will be in the gallery this Saturday, by the way, from 11am to 3pm; do call in if you would like to talk to him about his work, or would just like to find out about fine art printmaking processes in general.

PS: If you would like us to add your name to our e-mail list for news about the gallery and invitations to our exhibition previews, just e-mail us at art@gallerypoundbury.co.uk

Simon is back! For one weekend…

Seascape specialist Simon Read was one of our first regular exhibitors when we opened seven and a half years ago, responsible for some of our earliest sales of pictures in the gallery. Then he moved to live in Pembrokeshire…

We will shortly be welcoming him back – for one weekend – and we are looking forward to catching up with him. If you would like to look at his recent paintings and talk to Simon about his work (and perhaps even take home one of his pictures) he will be in the gallery on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, June 8, 9 and 10. We are looking forward to it…

Open For Art: who’s in the gallery

Open For Art 2019 starts soon, providing a widespread showcase for the work of artists across the whole of South Dorset, from Weymouth and Portland to Dorchester, Abbotsbury and all around.

At Gallery On The Square we are delighted to be be showing the paintings and prints of Angela Goodman and Rebecca Guyett. Angela’s work may be familiar to regulars at the gallery: she is one of the artists whose work we have exhibited regularly since we opened the gallery more than seven years ago. Rebecca is a newcomer to Gallery On The Square whose paintings and prints we are looking forward to hanging for the first time.

Open For Art starts on the 18th of May and runs to the 2nd of June. Our exhibition actually starts on Saturday May the 11th. We are open seven days a week (a shorter day on Sunday, from 10am to 4pm)…

Cool paintings, hot ceramics

Starting on Saturday March 23 in the gallery: new paintings from Philip Winstone and ceramics from Jerry and Catherine Broadway of Elm House Studio.

Philip has been a regular exhibitor at Gallery On The Square since we first showed his work in 2016. His distinctive form of semi-abstraction, inspired by the coast, is characterised by a cool, subtle palette and focus on texture.

The artists will be in the gallery between around 1pm and 3pm if you would like to say hello and talk to them about their work.

We’re expecting some of the pots to be arriving on Saturday morning hot out of the kiln! A technical malfunction prevented them from being fired earlier in the week…

What a result! £726.27 for cancer care

Two charity coffee mornings which we held at Poundbury and at Brewery Square raised even more than we had hoped for on behalf of the Fortuneswell Cancer Trust, which supports cancer care at Dorset County Hospital.

A huge thank-you to everyone who contributed to that very gratifying figure. The picture shows Paul Ryan, chairman of the Fortuneswell Cancer Trust, drawing our raffle on behalf of the charity. The prize, a £120 bag by Owen Barry, went to  Gina Orgel from Dorchester.

And everyone seemed to thoroughly enjoy the occasion! Perhaps we should do it again some time…
