Summer Show Time!

The peculiar circumstances of 2020 mean that our usual Summer Exhibition has become a Late Summer Exhibition – packed as never before with pictures from some of our favourite artists, including Colin Willey, John Boyd, Judy Tate, Philip Winstone, Sarah Ross-Thompson and Ben Spurling.
We can’t, of course, hold a Private View because of the restrictions on numbers, but we hope you might be able to get an early look at the show at the weekend! We’re open this Sunday, by the way, 10am to 4pm…

Summer Sale Time!

Our biggest-ever Summer Sale of clothing and accessories starts in our Poundbury shop this Saturday, August 8! Lots of lovely summer styles perfect for sunny weather! Seasonal bargains include Robell trousers, Adini tops and dresses and Marble jeans. Come early!! PS: This weekend we are open on Sunday (August 9) from 10 until 3…

A new show at last!

At last… we’re off again! We have started our first exhibition post-lockdown. On the gallery walls: fascinating new pictures by Philip Winstone and Debra Sweeney. Also on display: superb new ceramics (porcelain as well as stoneware) by Steve Neville.

Current circumstances prevented our arranging a preview evening, so the next best thing, perhaps, is to put the paintings on line – and that is what we have done… Do have a look at them at https://gallerypoundbury.co.uk/current-exhibition/

New gallery artist Allan Green

A highlight of our new mixed exhibition of landscape paintings is a series of superb new pictures by a newcomer to the gallery, Allan Green.

Allan, who graduated from Falmouth School of Art with first class honours, has spent much of his life in south Devon, becoming a regular exhibitor at galleries in Dartmouth, Totnes and the South Hams. More recently he moved to west Dorset, and we are delighted to have been able to welcome him to Gallery On The Square.

If you would like to talk to him about his work, he will be in the gallery on Saturday morning, January 18 from around 11am. We hope you may be able to call in!

Pictured here is the largest of Allan’s new paintings: After The Storm (oil on canvas), 100 x 70cm, £1250.

Rob Adams in London… and at Poundbury

By popular demand, Rob Adams has added some London pictures to his current exhibition at Gallery On The Square!
The show concentrates on his Dorset paintings, marking five years since he moved to the county, but followers of his work expressed the desire to see some of his recent London pictures as well…
Also in the gallery now is the picture Rob was working on at the weekend here at Queen Mother Square, though the paint is still drying at this point…

Rob Adams is back

It is a bumper autumn for Dorset landscape painting here at Gallery On The Square!

Hard on the heels of Colin Willey’s very successful show, we welcome back another gallery favourite, Rob Adams, for an exhibition starting on October 5.

Rob, as many people will know, made his name with London’s prestigious Wapping Group of painters. He moved to Dorset in 2014, and with this new exhibition celebrates five years living and working in the county…

What a show!

Marvellous start to our Summer Exhibition, Three Printmakers,  with a remarkable number of pictures sold in the first few days.

It’s a big show, though, and there is a whole lot of fascinating work still here from Paul Cleden, Robin Mackenzie and Sarah Ross-Thompson.

In the picture: artists Paul Cleden (left) and Robin Mackenzie with Frank and Val Godman, before the evening private view which launched the exhibition.

Paul Cleden will be in the gallery this Saturday, by the way, from 11am to 3pm; do call in if you would like to talk to him about his work, or would just like to find out about fine art printmaking processes in general.

PS: If you would like us to add your name to our e-mail list for news about the gallery and invitations to our exhibition previews, just e-mail us at art@gallerypoundbury.co.uk

Simon is back! For one weekend…

Seascape specialist Simon Read was one of our first regular exhibitors when we opened seven and a half years ago, responsible for some of our earliest sales of pictures in the gallery. Then he moved to live in Pembrokeshire…

We will shortly be welcoming him back – for one weekend – and we are looking forward to catching up with him. If you would like to look at his recent paintings and talk to Simon about his work (and perhaps even take home one of his pictures) he will be in the gallery on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, June 8, 9 and 10. We are looking forward to it…
